Krka National Park
Krka is a national park in Croatia. It is located in central Dalmatia, near the cities of Knin and Sibenik, along the valley of the Krka River, after which it was named. Received national park status in 1985. The total area of the park is 109 km2. Over 600,000 tourists visit the park annually.
Krka Waterfalls
Krka gained its popularity due to the cascade of 7 picturesque waterfalls located along the entire river.

Roški Slap is the main waterfall, containing a large number of smaller waterfalls, reaching a length of 650 meters. The waterfall is located almost where the river flows into Lake Visovac. There is a small island on the island, which has the same name as the lake. A Franciscan church and monastery were built on the island. The monastery was built in the 14th century by the Augustinians. In 1445, the monastery passed to the Francises, which they subsequently expanded and rebuilt. During the war they were expelled by the Turks. There is also a Serbian Orthodox monastery on the park's lands, founded in the 14th century. During its history it was destroyed several times. In the 17th century it was almost completely destroyed by the Turks. During the war in Yugoslavia in 1995, it was destroyed for the last time; it was restored in 2001.
In Krka you can watch the grinding of wheat at a water mill, which has been in operation for several centuries. On the territory of Krka Park you can find the ruins of several castles: Trosen grad, Klavica, Nechven grad, Bogocin grad, which were built to protect against Turkish raids. They give these places mystery and romance.
On the river you can find what remains of the first Croatian power plant, which Nikola Tesla himself built on August 28, 1895. A few days earlier, the world's first power plant was built on the Niagara River, but Croatia received electricity almost immediately, while the Americans only received it in 1896. If it were not for the First World War, the power plant might still be in operation.
Over 850 plant species are found in Krka Park. The park has a large number of birds - 222 species, and a large number of bird migrations take place here.
It is worth noting that in Krka Park you can swim in some places, you cannot fish without special permission, hunt animals, or pick flowers. The park has a very developed tourist infrastructure. The park offers walking, water, and car excursions, or you can rent a bicycle. You can go to the Skandar whirlpool, visit the subpads, the island of Visovac.
