The Aquarium of Genoa is a huge aquarium in Italy, which for its size is second only to one similar European structure. The Aquarium is located on the territory of the old harbor of Cape Ponte Spinola. It has as much as 3,100 m2. At least 1.2 million people visit the Genoa Aquarium every year.

At the time of the aquarium's construction, it was the second largest in the world. The construction of such a grandiose structure was dedicated to a special exhibition called "Genoa Expo 92", which was organized in honor of a great celebration, namely, the 500th anniversary of the discovery of great America, famous for Christopher Columbus.

Renzo Piano is a talented architect who successfully designed this building. The design and construction style resembles a gorgeous ship that is ready to sail from the shore at any moment. The interior of the aquarium was designed by Peter Shermayef, who was also responsible for the very first exhibitions.

In order to increase the area of the exhibition halls, a hundred-meter ship-shaped structure was completed in 1998, which was connected to the main building by a special passage.

The main objective of the Genoa Aquarium is to show visitors the underwater marine world of modern times and the underwater world of the voyages of Columbus (five centuries ago). Viewers can compare the living conditions of marine inhabitants in time. It offers a great opportunity to look into the depths of the Ligurian Sea, as well as the North Atlantic Ocean.

Nowadays, the components of the Genoa Aquarium are 70 tanks filled with seawater. These huge tanks hold approximately 6 million liters of water, which is supplied directly from the sea, but before entering the tank, it undergoes multi-stage filtration. The aquarium also has a well-thought-out ecosystem, which consists of various plants, microorganisms, as well as small animals.

There are also different types of pools where you can not only look at their inhabitants, but also stroke them. Among the many inhabitants of the aquarium, it is worth highlighting dolphins, seals, sharks, turtles

In addition to the exhibition halls, the Genoa Aquarium has a research laboratory where a project called the AquaRing EU project is being prepared.
