Hanging Temple
Hanging Temple – is not an ordinary Chinese temple, which was erected in the middle of a cliff near the sacred mountain of Henshan in Shanxi province. It belongs to temple buildings that belong to one of the sacred mountains of Taoism.
The monastery was erected among a huge cliff just below the gorge, and the sacred mountain itself was located only three kilometers from the area.
Xuankun Sy appeared here back in 491, during the reign of the North Wei dynasty. It was built among the pilgrimage path that lasted from the capital to Mount Henshan.
So that the temple building would be protected as much as possible from the Norovish river Hun, but at the same time as close as possible to the gorge, Xuankun Sy was erected, right on a rock that towered above the ground.
The monastery is regularly reconstructed and rebuilt until the beginning of the 20th century. Xuankun Sy comprise three sections, which are interconnected by stairwells, which are a little higher for each other. Their total length is approximately 150 meters. The highest transition mark is 50 meters, and the lowest – 26 meters from the ground.
The main structure of this complex is located on a huge platform, but the other two are simply hanging. Hanging structures are attached thanks to the console beams, which are located in the middle of the deep rock nests. In front of the very first section there are entrance gates that have towers.
The tour of Xuankun Sy is quite stressful, because you need to strictly adhere to the local rules. The route through the territory of the monastery passes by the indicated signs, here the totality of people is also not welcomed.
