History of creation
The Seattle Museum of History and Industry began to receive visitors in 1952, although the idea to create a museum appeared in 1911. It all started when Morgan and Emily Karkik hosted a Founder's Day party at their home. The couple invited the guests, asked them to put on historical outfits, bring artifacts or documents dedicated to the early development of the city. Such parties were held every year, and in 1914 a historical society was formed in Seattle. Despite the fact that he did not have his own building, the collection grew annually.
In 1945, Boeing, an aviation, space, and military equipment company, allocated $50,000 to open a building with an aviation exhibit. For several years, the society was looking for a suitable place and bought a site in Montlake. The building was designed by architect Paul Thiry. In the 1990s, the activities of the Seattle Museum of History and Industry began to scale: New educational programs were introduced, and in 2012 the new South Lake building was opened.

There are 22 sections dedicated to a particular era or a specific event. In total, the collection contains approximately 4 million objects, 3.5 million photos, 200 thousand archival materials. By the way, the collection of photographs is recognized as the largest in the region. The archive fund of the institution, including memorable photos, can be found in the library named after Sophia Fry Bass, the granddaughter of the founders of Seattle.

Among the exhibits at the Seattle Museum of History and Industry, you can see an American flag sewn during the Battle of Seattle in 1856, and a Boeing B-1 aircraft from 1919.
