Coca Castle
Coca Castle is a truly strong and powerful fortress that was built in Spain in the middle of the XV century. The castle was built during the reign of Enrique the Fourth of Castile, by the Spaniards themselves. Its appearance is simply charming and resembles a magnificent Arab palace, rather than a formidable defensive structure. Coca Castle is located in the Spanish city of Coca, which belongs to the province of Segovia, which is located in the middle of the country.
The architecture of Coca Castle is filled with Arabic elements with fortification traditions. This fortress belongs to the main examples of the Mudekhar style of this country, which is characterized by various stucco patterns, as well as a horseshoe-shaped arch.
The material for the construction of both Coca Castle and other Arab structures in Spain was white brick, which at that time was much cheaper than, for example, stone. Its proportions are very competently and scrupulously selected, and the construction itself is so high-quality that the castle is in excellent condition today.
The castle's decoration is quite thoughtful. The architects have achieved an amazing effect by using the color coloring of the exterior walls. A magnificent coating, similar to polygonal towers, is also present on the walls, which gives them an undulating appearance.
The castle has columns that embellish the upper part of the bastions, and in the walls themselves you can see a large number of loopholes that are designed for various weapons.
As historical data tells us, at the time when the castle was being built, not only its walls were reinforced, but also the entire city, which was surrounded by double particularly strong walls, as well as a deep moat. To this day, only the gates have survived from the ancient city fortification, as well as some areas with fragments of walls.
You can visit Coca Castle every day at a certain time, as the entrance to its territory is open for tourists only a couple of hours a day. Today, the state has the right to use the castle, but it is in the possession of private individuals, namely the Spanish Alba family.
