Moritzburg Castle

Back in the 13th century, there was a small village called Eisenberg, around which a dense forest grew, which lured the local government with many game. One of the representatives of the Kurfürsts was built here a hunting house, which was the basis of the local castle. In the house she was going to exclusively know – kings and princes. The hunting house, which was gradually being rebuilt and took the form of a castle, was named after its founder Moritz. After the death of the owner, the castle passes into the hands of his brother, which continues to improve it. The thirty-year war had a rather negative impact on the construction, which partially destroyed it. In 1656, the castle was managed by the Duke Johan Georg II, who made great efforts to renew and modernize it. It was for his initiatives that a chapel was built here, which was large in size.

The subsequent owner of the castle of Moritzburg – King of Poland Augustus l, which was also the ruler of Dresden. This kurfurist simply lived in a hunt that always took place on a large scale. For all the guests of the king there was not enough space in the castle, so he ordered the construction of a huge residence here. For ten years, construction has gradually increased and improved. The marshy area around was drained, and the adjacent forest turned into a park hunting area. Thus, a wonderful castle-palace appeared in this area, which simply looks irresistibly against the background of lakes and stone terraces.
