Herrenhausen Gardens

Herrenhausen is a garden and park complex located in the heart of Hanover. Undoubtedly, it is one of the main attractions of Germany, which was given life by the famous woman Sophia of Hanover. This world-famous garden was founded back in 1638.

The main part of the park ensemble is the Great Garden, laid out back in 1666 by the famous architect from France, who was hired by Hanover. The work on putting the Herrenhausen gardens in order has been going on for quite a long time, as many craftsmen have tried to make them just perfect. But, it is worth noting that the architects' ideas have been implemented, and the whole area has a very decent appearance, which is famous all over the world.

The style of the Great Herrenhausen Garden is reminiscent of the British as well as the French garden. But tourists are very enthusiastic about not only the garden complex, but also the castle located in the area. In the past, this building served as an ordinary fortress, but in the XlV century, the owners, who represented the Welf clan, tried to transform it. Thus, a palace appeared here, the reconstruction of which began in 1819 and ended in 1821.

During the Second World War, Herrenhausen Castle was bombed and almost nothing remained of it. It turned out to be unharmed, just a fountain and a few other small structures. But by the end of 2013, the restoration work was completed.

The main components of the Herrenhausen garden ensemble are four main parts, which are the main garden, the Welf Gardens, the Georg Gardens, and the mountain garden.

The main garden is famous for its wonderful lawns, paths, as well as sculptures and fountains. Various festivals and celebrations are constantly held here in the summer. In the large garden of Herrenhausen there is a beautiful but very laborious fountain, which was worked on by the popular master Niki de Saint Phalle. This main attraction of the garden, which releases a seventy-meter-high jet, is decorated with various crystals, seashells and numerous rare minerals.

The mountain garden, where the huge botanical garden of this country is located, is also very popular among the guests of Herrenhausen. The collection of orchids here is impressive, which has an unusually beautiful appearance.

The tropical garden lures with its exotic birds, as well as a collection of butterflies. This part of the garden also served as an experimental area where they tried to breed new plant species.

The Herrenhausen garden and park complex is always happy to welcome tourists here.
