Ilha da Queimada Grande
Queimada Grande, also known as Snake Island, is one of the most dangerous islands located in the Atlantic Ocean. It is located near the district of Sao Paulo, which is located in Brazil. The island's territory is small, and totals approximately 0.43 km2, and its height is about 200 meters. The people of Queimada Grande are bypassed, and local authorities have imposed a ban on visiting this territory.
This place is untouched by humanity. There are beautiful landscapes here, which are filled with beautiful rocks, wonderful vegetation and a magnificent beach that is washed by the endless ocean. The climate on the island of Queimada Grande is quite satisfactory all year round. But there are no conditions for recreation and tourism on Snake Island, all for the same terrible reason – venomous snakes.
Scientists have put forward the fact that there is an average of 1 snake per square meter. According to calculations by other scientists, there are 2,000 to 4,000 snakes on the island, and almost all of them live in the tropical part. It is impossible to make more accurate calculations due to the danger of being on the island.
The snakes that infest the island of Queimada Grande feed mainly on migratory birds, which, without waiting for danger, simply land on trees to rest and refresh themselves.
The most dangerous snake Island
It is home to the most dangerous snake on the entire planet, which is called the island botrops. Her bite is extremely feared, as it immediately causes tissue necrosis. There is very little reliable evidence of an island botrops bite, but judging by its chemical composition, the snake's venom is 5 times more dangerous than its mainland counterparts. For example, in Costa Rica, at least 6 people die from the bites of the tenacious-tailed botrops, while in South America at least 100 people die from their bites. Snake venom causes the victim to destroy red blood cells and blood vessels, the bite site swells violently, and internal bleeding is possible. Without an antidote, the poor guy has very little chance of survival.
Of course, there are blood-stirring stories about the forbidden territory, as it should be. Among them, a popular one is about a local fisherman who got hungry and landed on Snake Island to get bananas. Of course, the local creatures did not spare him, and he died from the bite in his boat, where he was found. The second legend that guides like to tell is about the local lighthouse keeper. Snakes got into the caretaker's house and his family's house in the middle of the night. The family tried to escape by running through the undergrowth to the boat, but all attempts were in vain. Soon the lighthouse stopped sending signals and the authorities sent a ship to find out the reasons. The sailors found only lifeless bodies near the lighthouse, and the lighthouse itself was infested with snakes that had crawled through an open window. At the moment, the lighthouse is automated.
Exploration of the snake island of Queimada Grande
People have tried several times to end the dominance of snakes on the Caymada Grande, but in vain. In the 19th century, a banana growing company tried to grow them on the island. To do this, a group of people was sent to Queimada Grande to clear the jungle, but all they could do was prepare a small area for a lighthouse. As soon as they entered the jungle, they were attacked by snakes from the trees, from which it was impossible to hide. They only had rubber boots for protection. A few years later, a trained group arrived in rubberized overalls, but the tropical climate did not allow them to work fully. The workers were sweltering from the heat and unbearable stuffiness, there was no way to take off their clothes – venomous snakes were hiding all around. People began to die because the body could not withstand such loads. Then there were attempts to set fire to the jungle, but the humid climate did not allow it. So the snakes became the rightful owners of Snake Island, and the Brazilian government banned its visit.
Travelers are strictly forbidden to set foot on this island, but nevertheless, the forbidden territory attracts especially curious tourists. The locals can conduct an extreme tour of the island in secret and for a decent amount of money, but for this you need to protect yourself with special equipment and clothes.
Research experiments are constantly taking place on the island, as well as various observations of animal life. There are many documentaries about this area, which tell about especially dangerous snakes and their existence in natural conditions.
