Sofiyivka Park
Sofiyevka Park is a huge national arboretum park in the city of Uman. It is a very popular place among the citizens and visitors of the city.
The Sofiyivka was pawned by Polish Count Stanislav Potocki to give to his wife for her birthday. In 1802, the park was ready for Sofia Witt-Potocka's name day, and the park was named after her. To build the park, the count invited a Polish military engineer, Ludwig Metzel. Before that, there were meadows with ravines and granite beams, which were skillfully integrated into the landscape of the park. Additionally, exotic shrubs were planted and sculptures were erected. The Kamenka River flows through the park, on which 2 ponds with an area of 8 and 1.5 hectares, cascades and even a waterfall with a height of 14 meters have been erected in Sofiyevka. The natural rocks Tarpeiskaya and Levkadskaya, grottos, pavilions, and sculptural compositions are successfully integrated into the composition of the park.
After the Polish uprising in 1832, these lands were confiscated, and later Tsar Nicholas I donated Sofiyivka Park to his wife. In the following years, the gazebos "Chinese" and "Mushroom" were built, a Pink Pavilion appeared on Anti-Circe Island, and a Flora pavilion was also built. The diversity of flora in the Sofiyevka Arboretum Park is amazing, because over 3,000 species of plants, shrubs and trees grow here. There are 25 varieties of hazel alone, 100 species of lianas, over 300 varieties of roses, almost 60 varieties of rhododendron, 41 species of firs and 24 beeches. All this fits into a huge territory of 180 hectares.
In the Sofiyevka Arboretum Park, active recreation is very popular, so going for a walk in the park. The main time of operation of all services in the park is from 9 to 18 (after 18 you do not need to pay for admission to the park), when you can book a tour or, for example, take a picture in a ball gown. The park is very popular among newlyweds who come here even from the nearest cities. This is all for a reason, because in the Flora pavilion you can officially register your marriage. If you are in no hurry to get married, then you should go kayaking, gondolas, catamarans, or even horseback riding along rivers and ponds. You can also swim along the underground Acheron River, which is more than two hundred meters long. After a great vacation, you can go for a snack to numerous cafes, or buy yourself a souvenir.
