The closest to the national park is the village of Mayaki. According to archaeological excavations - the permanent settlement here was already 400-300 years BC. Also found the remains of the settlements of 2 millennia BC. For the first time in writing, the Lighthouses were mentioned in the 15th century, and with the growth of Odessa, the village became an important transshipment point.
In 1993, the Dniester Swimming Reserve was created with an area of 76 km2, which eventually became the core of the Nizhnegranian National Natural Park. The national park itself was created only in 2008. The purpose of creating the park is the conservation and reproduction of the unique natural complexes of the Dniester. Nizhnegransky has a very rich fauna, thanks to the inclusion of the northern part of the Dniester estuary, as well as the marshy territories "Inter-daughter of the Dniester-Turunchuk". By its functional value, the park is divided into 4 zones: a protected, regulated and stationary restoration, as well as a business zone. To develop ecological tourism, the park management has developed 4 cognitive routes. The length of the water route "Bird's Kingdom" is 20 km, during which guests of the park will be rolled on a boat along the channel of the Dniester, Deep Turunchuk to the Dniester estuary, then tourists come back through the Kilyara duct to Mayaki.
