Black Canyon of the Gunnison
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is a US national park, which is also one of the Rocky Mountains parks. Park with an area of 124 km2 divides the Hannison River into two parts, and due to the lack of bridges there are 2 entrances to the park - in the north and south.
In the park is Gannison Canyon, the length of which is 77 km, but in the park there are only 18 kilometers. In 1933, the area was first declared national monuments, then park in 1999.
Utah Indians lived in the Gannison River Valley for a long time, but the Spaniards were the first to visit the Europeans in the 18th century. But John Hannison gave a detailed report on the area when he visited these places in his group in 1853. John explored the area to lay the railroad. On September 7, the group went into the canyon, Gannison examined the canyon several times, suggesting that a railway be held here. But the canyon expedition never passed, decided to turn south, where they were almost all stabbed to death.
The territory of the park spread over the Colorado Plateau in 4 natural areas. The vegetation is represented by small groups of juniper 6 varieties, oak and Colorado pine. In places where there is little light, fir usually grows. At the bottom of the canyon you can see maples, a cherry, a poplar, and places are also observed.
In the Black Gannison Canyon Park, 66 species of animals were recorded, among which black-tailed deer, cougars, black bears, coyotes, and also vapiti are often found. No less rich is the ornithofauna of the park, numbering 176 representatives of the birds. About 15 species of fish live in rivers.
The park is very popular among tourists, almost 250,000 people visit it in a year. You can only get to the Black Gannison Canyon park through the southern and northern entrances, there is an information center in the southern part, and they also built a road along the canyon with observation platforms. Travelers in these lands are attracted by incredibly beautiful nature. For the convenience of tourists, 3 campsites are formed. From active types of recreation in the park you can do mountaineering, river rafting or fish.
