Kislovodsky National Park

Kislovodsk National Park is one of the most beautiful parks in the Caucasus, covering a vast territory of 965 hectares. It was from here that the fashion for therapeutic walking began in Russia.

Kislovodsky National Park

The history of the park began in 1823, when General Alexei Ermolov ordered the park to be built. Several detachments of soldiers were assigned specifically for this purpose, which had to face great difficulties, because the local soil is rocky and it is quite difficult to plant trees. Therefore, fertile soil was brought to the park.

In 1845, Prince M. S. Vorontsov was appointed to the Caucasus, who brought the best varieties of flowers and trees from his Crimean lands to develop the garden. In addition, plants from Tbilisi, Riga, Ukraine, as well as plants from the gardens of the Caucasus were brought here. In 1903, the park was reinvigorated, with horticulturist Albert Regel in charge of construction. An average park was built on the former Cossack lands. Firs, firs, oaks, and ash trees were planted on the hillsides. By the way, until 2016, these territories were called the Resort Park, and then they were renamed the Kislovodsk National Park.

In 1901, the first therapeutic walking trail in Russia, the terrencourt, was laid here. Later, 6 more trails of varying difficulty were laid. All routes are divided into 3 types, depending on the angle of ascent, length, pace of walking and how often you need to rest on it. Each route is sprinkled with red sand and marked with information signs. The total length of the trails is 30 kilometers, and the length of the routes varies from 1,700 to 6,000 meters. It is quite easy to walk along any route - just walk to the Narzan Gallery, from where all the trails begin.

Kislovodsk National Park is located in a picturesque place on the banks of the Olkhovka River. In total, the park boasts over 250 species of shrubs and trees, of which the most notable are firs, ash trees, hornbeams, maples, firs, cedars, larches, cork trees. About a thousand varieties of plants grow in the park, and flower lovers should visit the "Valley of Roses" and the "Playground of Roses", as well as nurseries and greenhouses with plants. By the way, squirrels were brought to the park a long time ago and they are used to the local climate and residents, so you can easily bait and feed the squirrels with your hands.
