Cruiser Aurora
The cruiser Aurora is a Diana-class cruiser of the first rank of the Baltic Fleet. It was named after the sailing frigate "Aurora", which became famous during the defense of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky during the Crimean War. This is a symbol of the Russian fleet; in addition to its military merits, it is a real landmark of St. Petersburg and adorns the Baltic Sea. The vessel is very popular not only in Russia, but throughout the world.
Brief history
It is due to the difficult global situation in which the arms race took place. In this regard, Russia adopted a program for the development of the navy, during which the construction of several battle cruisers was also planned. The Baltic Shipyard took over the construction of the ships. Nicholas II personally gave one of the cruisers the name "Aurora". The launch of the cruiser took place at the very beginning of the 20th century and took place in a solemn atmosphere - the ceremony was attended by the entire family of the emperor, as well as the entire military leadership of the empire. The cruiser Aurora has seen many battles and military campaigns.
Three years after the Cruiser Aurora was launched, its testing began, during which the ship experienced many difficulties - it survived a storm, technical problems, and so on. After the tests, it was decided to carry out new work, during which many problems were eliminated.
Pride of the fleet
The cruiser Aurora is permanently moored at the Petrogradskaya embankment at the source of the Bolshaya Nevka. This is a cultural heritage site of the Russian Federation. It was moved several times for repairs, the last time returning to the parking lot on July 16, 2016.
The cruiser Aurora has repeatedly participated in various military operations - military operations in the Far East as part of Rear Admiral Virenius, during which Aurora visited Suez, Piraeus, Bizerte, Djibout and many other places. Aurora also participated in the Second Pacific Squadron. However, the cruiser suffered its main combat operations during the First World War, where the ship performed gloriously in the war with the Germans and Japanese. Also during the Russian Revolution, the Cruiser Aurora was captured by the Bolsheviks. After Aurora's participation in various hostilities, repair work began to be carried out on her, which continued until 2018, when a ship's temple was erected on the ship, in which religious services are held on idle days.
