Lake jellyfish
Lake Jellyfish is named after its inhabitants, as it is home to more than two million jellyfish of various colors, shapes and sizes. The lake is located in the Republic of Palau, thirty kilometers from its capital and is its main attraction. This small lake, 460 meters long and 160 meters wide, has formed a reservoir filled with salt water. The depth of the lake reaches 50 meters.
Lake jellyfish was formed more than 35 million years ago through the collision of two plates. The jellyfish entered the depression through the pores of limestone from the ocean.
The lake's water is divided into two layers: the first contains oxygen and all the lake's wildlife, and the second, lower layer, contains ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, in which the percentage of hydrogen is reduced to zero, as a result of which there are practically no inhabitants.
There are two types of jellyfish in the lake of jellyfish - golden and moon jellyfish. The first type is more widespread and numerous, they have a golden-colored body with tentacles located at the edges.
Due to the lack of enemies in the pond, they breed in large numbers. As a result, they can be seen from the height of the aircraft. All jellyfish are absolutely safe for humans, they do not sting or leave burn marks, as all protective functions are atrophied due to the lack of need to protect themselves. Therefore, tourists can swim with the jellyfish without fear of harm.
Diving is allowed in Lake jellyfish, but scuba diving is prohibited. Scuba divers from all over the world come here to admire the underwater beauty of the lake and swim with a million jellyfish, which immediately after diving will surround from all sides. Scuba diving is not allowed for two reasons: the first is that jellyfish can die through the bubbles formed from scuba diving, and the second is diving to a depth of 15 meters or deeper, which is dangerous for human life.
Jellyfish feed on plants that grow in their body. In order for the algae to receive a portion of ultraviolet light, grow and develop, the jellyfish constantly migrate, following the sun, rotating counterclockwise, while changing body parts.
As night falls, the golden jellyfish move to the depths of the lake, where the water is enriched with nitrogen, while the moon jellyfish remain on the surface to catch crustaceans.
