Jostedalsbreen National Park

Jostedalsbreen is a national park in Norway, located on an area of 1,310 ^km2. The largest continental European glacier, covering an area of 487 ^km2, can be found in the park. In recent years, the glacier has been melting and farms that were swallowed up by glaciers in 1750 have opened up.

The highest point of the Jostedalsbreen Park is Mount Lodarskapa with a height of 2083 meters. It is believed that it was first conquered in 1820 by Gottfried Bohr. Today, it can be climbed by the easiest route starting at the village of Vodalen. Lakes Austdalsvatnet and Stiggevatnet are located near the glacier.

Jostedalsbreen Park is popular among foreigners, they like it for its cleanliness and unity. Here you can admire the vast expanses of mountains, glaciers, and engage in outdoor activities. Rock climbers come here quite often. There are 3 museums in the park.: The Norwegian Glacier Center, which can be found in the Jost Plain, the Museum in the municipality of Stryn, and the Norwegian Glacier Museum. The latter is located near the village of Fjorland. In this museum, you can learn about the role of glaciers in the life of the planet, and at the moment it is exchanging information with other environmental organizations.: University of Oslo, University of Bergen, International Glaciological Society, Norwegian Polar Institute.

The most popular places in the national park are Briksdalsbreen and Nygaardsbreen. It is best to visit the Brixdalsbreen Glacier by cart. Along the way, you can enjoy the picturesque views of nature, passing bridges, waterfalls, lakes formed by melting glaciers. Once there were roads along the glacier, but because of the melting they became dangerous. Jostedalsbreen Park is a good place to walk, and you can wait out the night in one of the cabins. Excursions to the Jostedalsbreen glacier are organized every day from May to October, and to Nygaardsbreen from July to August.

Of the vegetation in the park, there are mainly pines and frost-resistant shrubs, while bear, moose, and deer are often seen among the animals.
