Trevi Fountain
The Trevi Fountain is one of the most famous and majestic fountains of the "Eternal City" of Rome. It was designed by renowned architect Nicolo Salvi, at the request of Pope Clement Xll. This beauty, which enchants thousands of tourists nowadays, has been created for 30 years, starting in 1732. It is the largest fountain in Rome. It is simply the most magnificent decoration of the Palazzo Poli, against which it looks even more grandiose.
Its main source is the gushing springs of pure water, which are located thirteen kilometers from the city. This structure, filled with water, measures 20 meters wide and 26 meters high. The Trevi fountain is reproduced with marine motifs, as evidenced by the mythical god Ocean located in the center of the composition (in some literature you can find that this is Neptune), which rides on a shell carriage pulled by seahorses with newts. The sounds of falling water pouring down from the composition are very similar to the noise of the seashore. The local water is healing and tourists use it. There is a legend behind which three coins are thrown into the fountain water over the left shoulder, and only with the right hand – they will definitely bring happiness. The first coin tossed in Trevi promises the guest of the fountain to return to this wonderful city, the second promises to find his soulmate, and the third promises to create a strong family. On one side of the fountain there are small "tubes of love" from which it is customary to drink water with your significant other in order for family ties to be very strong. All tourists, without exception, perform this ritual near the fountain. But once upon a time, around the 18th century, this rite looked different, it was enough just to drink a glass of healing water from the fountain and you will be happy. Now, close to $11,000 is extracted from the bottom of the Trevi every week, which goes to the city's charity.
Due to its beauty, the Trevi Fountain is often the hero of films, among them "Roman Holiday", "La dolce Vita" and others.
Also in 2004, this beautiful cultural monument was chosen as a symbol of the European Parliament elections. The flag of the European Union was installed here, and a ballot box was set up so that one could vote. This action by the city government has attracted even more attention to the Trevi Fountain from travelers.
The majestic Trevi Fountain is also worth a visit at night, when, thanks to the unobtrusive lighting, it takes on a completely different look.
