Cape Rock

Cape Roca is recognized as the westernmost cape of the Eurasian continent, it is located on the Iberian Peninsula. The Romans called it Promontorium Magnum, and in the era of Great Geographical Discoveries it was called the Cape of Lisbon. The cape is located 40 kilometers west of the Portuguese capital, 18 kilometers from Sintra. The cliff rises 140 meters above the level of the Atlantic Ocean.

If you have traveled more than one hundred kilometers to see the Cape Rock lighthouse, then you can come in the evening. Do not forget that it can be very cold at night, even in the summer.

There is a stele with a cross on Cape Rock, and under it there is a plaque stating that this place is the westernmost point in Europe. There is a beach next to the cape. It can be reached by a very winding path. It must be remembered that such a walk is accompanied by troubles and danger. In any place, even the most extreme part of the world, one should be careful.
