The island of Nusa Penida has long been considered a sacred place among Aboriginal people. The process of cleaning a small land area did not take much time, so soon the territory became very pleasant for living.
By the way, the unusual name translates as "Island of Holy People", recalling the great purification of the territory. But the island did not last long: in the XVIII century it was turned into a colony for criminals. Nusa Penida became a cultural place of rest only in the twentieth century thanks to lovers of deep-sea adventures.

Nusa Penida is considered the real dream of divers and ecotourists. Here you can still find nature corners untouched by civilization, harmoniously adjacent to modern hotels and other noisy entertainment. A small but very picturesque Gayyangan waterfalls will delight a million spray and mild coolness, especially pleasant after overcoming 700 steps separating it from the plain.
On the island of Nusa Penida, you simply can not do without studying the underwater kingdom: here beginners and experienced swimmers feel comfortable. And for those who feel safe, local clubs offer snorkeling: the water inhabitants are clearly visible, and there is no fear of depth and lack of the ability to breathe deeply.
