Nusa Penida
The charm of Indonesia is manifested not only in lovely yarn and expensive resorts, but also in small islets, not very visited by tourists. Among these practically reserved places is the small island of Nusa Penida.
Island history
The island of Nusa Penida has long been considered a sacred place among Aboriginal people. It was assumed that a powerful dark spirit lives here And Gede Makalin, the lord of the diseases that he sent to the objectionable inhabitants of the island. Next to him lived other evil spirits, dark gods and demons of all stripes. Local residents suffered such horrors for quite some time, but then they were not tired of the most pleasant neighborhood, and they invited the priests to expel all this evil. The process of cleaning a small land area did not take much time, so soon the territory became very pleasant for living.
By the way, the unusual name translates as "Island of Holy People", recalling the great purification of the territory. But the island did not last long: in the XVIII century it was turned into a colony for criminals. Nusa Penida became a cultural place of rest only in the twentieth century thanks to lovers of deep-sea adventures.
Island description
Nusa Penida is considered the real dream of divers and ecotourists. Here you can still find nature corners untouched by civilization, harmoniously adjacent to modern hotels and other noisy entertainment. Although tourists waiting for the eternal holiday of life may be bored here: the island is more designed for family vacations and quiet serene pastime against the background of unique landscapes, transparent turquoise of ocean waters, the magical world, hidden under the thick of the water.
It is better to plan your vacation on Nusa Penida from April to November; in December, the season of rains and storms begins, which does not have the best effect on the condition of beaches and sea day. But prices during this period are as low as possible.
