One of the legends is that the emergence of the island is connected with the gods. It is believed that he appeared at the moment when Poseidon in anger took a trident and hit the ground. At this moment, a huge crack formed near the coast and part of the land broke off, forming an island.

From Greece, the islands of Evia are separated by straits, each of which has its own legend. The most famous of them is associated with the Eurip Strait, the mystery of which Homer wrote. Legend has it that Aristotle himself once passed along the island, trying to find out the secret of a change in course. For millennia, sea water flows have been enveloping the island on both sides and in contact with one of its most narrowest places. Three times a day, a change of currents – one of the rarest phenomena of nature occurs in the strait. Water moving at a speed of about 12 km / h seems to freeze and after a little time begins to move in the other direction.
