Kromerizh Castle

Back in 1260, Kromeržiz Castle was built in the middle of the center of the Maravian region in the Czech Republic, where the Morava River flows. Here, at the very top of Hrzyby Mountain, a whole complex of castle structures has been erected, which represent a remarkable Baroque style.

Kromerizh Castle

The area where the castle appeared previously belonged to Great Moravia, which has been known since the 9th century. Following the decree of the ruler, who was Przemysl Ottokar II, the local settlement was transformed into a city, at the intersection of the main streets of which the castle of Kromerzyzh stood.

After some time, the palace was devastated, looted and partially destroyed, as a result of numerous protracted wars, including the great Thirty Years.

Kromerizh Castle

Attempts were made to rebuild the Kromeriz Castle more than once, during which it changed its appearance from the Gothic style to the Renaissance style. But eventually he acquired a magnificent Baroque style.

The interior design of the castle attracts special attention. You just can't take your eyes off the luxurious furniture, crystal chandeliers, and various frescoes. A picture immediately emerges in my head of the luxury in which the former owners, who were feudal lords, as well as bishops and even knights, lived here.

The castle also houses magnificent paintings. This gallery has found a place on the second floor and occupies as many as ten halls of the building. The gallery is very significant for the whole country and ranks second in importance. There are paintings that are world famous, among them works by Titian, Cranach and many others. There are also other valuable exhibits in the castle, which are located in the music and book exhibition. Among them are autographs of the great Mozart and Gaidan, as well as various ancient books and manuscripts.

Special attention is also drawn to the magnificent Throne Room and the Hunting Hall, which will be of particular interest to hunting enthusiasts. It is impossible to ignore the Imperial Room, where the question of the future of Europe was once decided.

The green complex that surrounds the Kromerzhiz castle is simply fascinating. It is as much as 64 hectares and consists of various manicured lawns, paved paths, fountains and, of course, flower beds. Also, the castle's guests will certainly enjoy various labyrinths, sculptures, greenhouses, a Chinese pavilion and a flower garden.

Kromeržiz Castle, along with its gallery and magnificent gardens, is under UNESCO protection.

You can get to this Czech landmark in three hours from Prague by train or bus, but with a transfer.
