Houhai Lake

History of the lake

Houhai Lake, in its Chinese translation, means "the sea coming from behind." It was named for a reason, as the reservoir is located at the back of the sea, next to the Gugong Palace and Jingpshan Park. Houhai smoothly begins its flow from the east, flowing along the huge blocks of the city, and then abruptly tends into a narrow channel, which is located on Xinzekou Street. In the south, you can see the Houhai moving towards Pingyan Street, and on its northern side, the river is located next to a huge main road.

It should be noted that Houhai Lake was created artificially in Beijing, this lake was considered a place where the imperial family spent their free time, and today it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in China, thanks to which tourists can get to know the unique Chinese history and glorious traditions of China better. There is also another unique restaurant here, Lijiai, where the menu is prepared every day and where visitors can taste seafood dishes, fish for which are harvested by fishermen every day.

Yangdaisese Street, which runs along the lake, is one of the oldest streets in Beijing, it is more than 100 years old. There are shops on the street that sell excellent tobacco, which is actively produced on plantations in China. There are also Chinese barbershops and shops where you can buy household goods. Sugar workshops are located closer to the shores of Lake Houhai, where merchants buy sugar in bulk. They also sell various spices and sweets that every tourist should enjoy.
