Yankee Stadium in the South Bronx is the home venue for the New York Yankees, a Major League Baseball team. The field can be converted into a soccer field, thanks to which the stadium is also used as a temporary field by the MLS club New York City.
History of creation
Construction work began in 2006 and was completed 3 years later. Yankee Stadium replaced Yankee Stadium, which opened in 1923. The new arena is located northeast of its predecessor, where McCombs Dam Park used to be.
The first game at the new facility, where the Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs 7-4, took place on April 2, 2009. The 2009 and 2024 World Series were held at Yankee Stadium. In 2011, Derek Jeter made history as the first Yankees player to reach 3,000 hits. Since 2015, football matches have been held on the site, for this purpose the place is being transformed into a full-fledged football field. In addition, political meetings, boxing matches and concerts are organized in this place. All events are held at a high level.
Short description
During the design of the modern sports arena, elements of the Yankee Stadium were used. Due to the fact that the railway runs nearby, the border of the right field is set closer to the stadium fence than in other arenas. Fans have noticed that because of this, left-handed batters are more likely to hit home runs, after which they need to run through all the bases and return. This is a popular point of view, but not everyone shares it.
The capacity of Yankee Stadium during baseball games is 49,642 seats, for American football – 54,251 seats, for traditional football – 33,444 seats. If necessary, the number of seats can increase to 49,642. To get to the stadium, you can come to watch a match, concert or other event. You can also sign up for an excursion and get acquainted with the history of Yankee Stadium, where, by the way, films were shot several times. For example, the filming of the movie "For the Love of the Game" starring Kevin Costner and Kelly Preston took place at the old Yankee Stadium. "Tough nut to crack. Retribution", "Problems on the Way", "Detective", "It happens every Spring", "FBI Story", "Living for Real" were also created on this site.
