The Kennedy Space Center is one of the unusual attractions of the state of Florida. Here you can look at the rockets that participated in the missions, explore outer space in interactive zones or go on a virtual trip to the stars.
History of creation
NASA planned to launch the spaceport and formalized the territory on Merritt Island: 340 square kilometers are a direct purchase, and 230 square kilometers were obtained through negotiations with the state. The complex of facilities for launching spacecraft and flight control was officially established in 1962. A year later, the name changed to the Kennedy Center, due to the fact that US President John F. Kennedy set a goal to conquer the moon. This center was used as the main launch site for the Apollo missions, including Apollo 11, in which Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrink successfully landed on the lunar surface in 1969.
Short description
The alternative name of the facility is the NASA Launch Control Center. Its dimensions are 55 kilometers long and 10 kilometers wide, with a total area of 657 square kilometers.
On the territory of the Kennedy Space Center complex, in addition to the agency's site, there are facilities where research and development of innovative solutions for government and commercial space enterprises are carried out.
The Kennedy Space Center continues to be used as a base for launching and landing space shuttles. In the 2020s, he continues to play an important role in the program for missions to the Moon and Mars.
Attractions
The Kennedy Space Center is open to guests, and you should bring your photo ID with you when planning a trip. This is one of the conditions of the visit that cannot be ignored.
