Balboa Park is one of the largest historical cultural parks, with an area of 490 hectares. This is one of the most visited places not only in San Diego, but throughout California. There are museums, theaters, restaurants and even a zoo.
History of creation
Previously, there was a village of the Kumeyaay Indian tribe on the territory of Balboa Park. In the 1850s, the demolition of the Indian settlements, which are located half a mile from the city, was announced. The village continued to exist under the leadership of Joshua Manuel Polton, also known as Khatam, and it became known as Hatama Village. He turned it into an urban area for Native Americans. This place became home to native Californians and residents of Baja California, who traveled to San Diego in search of work. Until the 1890s, the area survived thanks to the support of Polton and his successor Juan Gonzalez. Then the settlement was disbanded and became Balboa Park.
There is a misconception that the park was named after the film character of boxer, trainer and entrepreneur Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone, but this is not the case. The landmark is named after the famous Spanish explorer and navigator Vasco Nunes de Balboa, who lived from 1475 to 1519. Since 1977, the park and the buildings operating on its territory have been on the U.S. Register of Historic Places.

You can get to Balboa Park by public transport: buses No7, 120 and Rapid 215 are suitable. There is also a free tram stop near the attractions, which can be boarded at the Organ Pavilion, Federal or Inspiration Point parking lots.
