Volcano Klyuchevskoy
Klyuchevskaya volcano is a huge mountain with a crater in the center, it is still considered active, and eruptions have been seen repeatedly. The stratovolcano is recognized as the highest on the entire continent of Eurasia, and according to scientists, this volcano has been more than 7 thousand years old. It is located at a distance of 60 kilometers from the coast and residential settlements.
A chain of volcanic eruptions
Klyuchevskaya Volcano began its history of eruptions in 1697. The next one took place in 1737. This event was described by Stepan Krasheninnikov in one of his books. He wrote that the terrible eruption began on the night of the second to the third of September. The whole spectacle lasted for the whole week. It was also said that magma could be seen through the crevices, which rolled down to the settlements like a running river.
And after the second century, the eruptions of the Klyuchevskaya Volcano were repeated. Fortunately, the eruptions were not from the central crater, but from the lateral crevices, which were located at an altitude of 800 m. There was no major damage. Then the chain of eruptions began. In 1939, everything happened again. Minor magma emissions continued throughout the year. People lived in fear, they were afraid that they might not wake up. This eruption is famous for being considered the strongest outburst of magma from secondary craters.
Klyuchevskaya volcano at different times
In 1944-1945, there was an eruption that spread its ashes across the sky within a radius of 600 meters. And in January 1945, there was a small surge of magma from the lateral crevices. In the following year, the eruptions were repeated several times. One of the magma streams stretches for a distance of 8,500 meters. In the period from 1945 to 2003, Klyuchevskaya Volcano was active more than 15 times.
In 2003, for 12 months, scientists observed Stromblin activity in the depths of the volcano. The next chain of eruptions lasted 6 years, with one eruption per year, but some lasted throughout the year. Then there was a break for 3 years, but in 2016 the eruptions were repeated, it also happened in 2019 and 2021. Nowadays, the Klyuchevskaya Volcano is still active and very dangerous.
