Gamilton Gardens
In New Zealand, in the town of Hamilton, there is an amazingly beautiful garden located on the banks of the Waikato River and covering an area of 54 hectares. These gardens are called botanical gardens, but in fact they are 21 gardens, divided by subject: art, religion, traditions of garden design from different countries.
Hamilton's garden began to develop in 1960, when 4 hectares were allocated for a public garden. In 1971, a rose garden was opened specifically for the first World Rose Convention, and in 1982, several more gardens were opened to the public, where you could walk along the paths and admire the lake. The rose garden was named after the mayor of Hamilton, Denis Rogers, who put a lot of effort into developing the garden. In the 1970s, it was decided that Hamilton Gardens should be more than just a botanical garden. For this purpose, several funds were opened to raise the necessary funds: the foundation for the creation of a rose garden, a Chinese garden, a Japanese garden, an Indian garden, an Italian Renaissance garden, a Te Parapara garden and others.
Due to its beauty, Hamilton Gardens have won many awards and the hearts of visitors. After all, with a city population of 150,000 people, the gardens are visited annually by over a million visitors per year, for whom more than 2,000 different events are organized here. In 2014, the gardens received the title of "Garden of the Year" at the international conference of garden tourism.
Of all the gardens, the "Garden of Eden Collection" stands out, representing the trend of garden development. The word "paradise" comes from the old Persian word "pairidaeza", which translates as "fenced garden". There are six gardens in this collection.
- The Chinese garden is an interpretation of the gardens of the Song Dynasty (10th-12th century). The garden has a tiled path leading through a corridor, caves, a bridge, an island and a dense bamboo forest.
- The Japanese Garden of Contemplation is an example of a garden from the Muromachi period (14th-16th century), designed for meditation, study and contemplation. The garden is carefully laid out with stones, a traditional pavilion, and an extensive soothing pond.
- The English Flower Garden is an example of 19th century English garden art. The garden has walls and hedges that create "rooms", there are fountains, and the main space is occupied by a pavilion, lawn, and pond.
- The modernist garden is designed in the American style of the 20th century, designed for outdoor recreation and inspired by modern art.
- The Italian Renaissance Garden captures the period of the 15th and 16th centuries. In the garden at the entrance you can see the statue of Romulus and Remus, a pavilion with flower beds, as well as an open-air theater.
- Indian Char Bagh Garden is an interpretation of Indian, Mongolian and Islamic gardens.
- The ancient Egyptian garden recreates the period 2000 BC. One of the first gardens made by humans.
There are also themed garden collections featuring plants for cosmetics, medicine, traditional vegetable gardens, rose gardens, azaleas and rhododendrons, tropical gardens, and a surreal garden. There are 21 gardens in total where you can find something suitable for yourself. People come from all over the world to see Hamilton Gardens.
