Avenue of the Baobabs
The Avenue of the Baobabs is a unique dirt road that annually attracts many tourists from all parts of the world. Enormous baobabs have grown along the entire alley, which are a real attraction of the area, which is located in the west of Madagascar and belongs to the Menabe region.
These amazing trees of the offspring are over 800 years old. The height of their trunks is at least 30 meters. There are about a dozen of these huge trees on the Baobab Alley.
It is worth noting that so many baobabs remained from the dense forest, which once occupied a fairly large territory of Madagascar. The trees were ruthlessly cut down by the local population, which was quickly settled in a circle. These baobab specimens, which are going to be viewed from around the world, were preserved as a source of food, as well as building material.
Baobabs in this country grow everywhere, but it is along the famous alley that they are located a number of different breeds. The largest of them is called, which sounds like renala, and in translation into our language means « mother forests ». Their powerful trunks are visible from afar, they have a very smooth unusual surface. This column of magnificent baobabs that seem upside down, looks simply charming against a deserted background.
The trunks of giant trees can sometimes reach nine meters in diameter. They have just a huge root system, which provides the plant with moisture in the right amount.
Baobabam also tends to bloom. Their white inflorescence usually opens on branches in the evening or at night. Thriving baobabs have a pretty good aroma, which usually lures bats at such a time. The fruits of the tree are loved by local animals, they especially like monkeys, which is why they sometimes call it monkey bread.
The whole town, to which the Baobab Alley belongs, is small to get around it, it is enough to spend 30 minutes of time.
You can get here by renting a car, but here the roads do not shine much, so we advise you to bring a local driver with you.
