Tikal

Tikal makes up the bulk of Guatemala's national park and is located among the jungle in the province of Peten in northern Central America. This park is interesting in that many years ago it was the urban center of May's civilization, as well as its nature – of the local flora and fauna. Its area is about 600 km2, of which 16 km2 - architectural structures.

Tikal

Tikal was built among the jungle, which, to date, has been turned into a nature reserve, and the national park is included in the UNESCO list.

The history of Tikal begins 700 years ago BC. It was the most famous city of the May tribe. Translated from their language, the name of the city denotes « the place where the voices of spirits » are heard. Architectural structures were built with amazing beauty. But in the 10th century AD residents left the city for unknown reasons, leaving us only the memory of their existence, since many of their structures have remained to this day, having stood the test of time. Here there are close 3 thousand different buildings, many of which have no name, but are only numbered.

In the very center of Tikal is the Big Square, which is called the Grand Plaza. Pyramids with narrow stairs, 44 and 38 m high, respectively, were erected on both sides of the square. At their top are the Temple of Great Jaguars and the Temple of Masks.

It should be noted that in addition to the Grand Plaza complex in Tikal, there are 7 more similar but smaller pyramid temples. Below are insoles decorated with carvings, inscriptions and drawings of rulers.

Three acropolas – North, Central and Southern were built on three sides of the city. The main components of the Northern Acropolis are 12 temples located on the same platform, but at different levels. The total number of buildings is about a hundred.

The central acropolis is a number of structures that store the remains of palace buildings. Here is the Palace Pond, and on the opposite side of the Pyramid 58 m high.

Southern Acropolis consists of seven small temples. To date, excavations of the Southern Acropolis are still ongoing.

Another, the highest building of Tikal is the Temple of the Two-headed Snake. You can consider the beauty of the ancient buildings of ancient civilization by walking along well-groomed paths, and you can climb the pyramids along wooden steps. The height offers breathtaking views of the ruins of the ancient city, as well as the nature of the jungle. Tikal National Park is of interest not only to the architectural buildings of the city, but also to its nature, where palm trees, cypress trees and other trees grow. In this reserve there are many birds of various colors, jaguars, reptiles and snakes.
