Museum Island

The museum island is located in Berlin on the north side of the island of Spreeinzel, the coast of the Spree River. The entire museum complex has five constituent architectural elements. It is considered the center of world art and contains exhibits from ancient times until the twentieth century.

The Old Museum was the first to be built, it was erected in 1830 for the punishment of Frederick William the third. After 29 years, another – Prussian Royal Museum appeared. Today it has been renamed the New Museum. The next one was built in 1876 by the National Gallery. In the twentieth century, the last two buildings – were erected in 1904 by the Bode Museum and in 1930 by Pergamsky. The construction of the entire complex took a century. The whole complex of museum structures began to be called « Museum Island » since the 70s of the 19th century. The museum island suffered greatly during World War II. To maintain the complex, restoration work was carried out.

The Old Museum contains antique exhibits – weapons, jewelry made of gold and silver, representing ancient Greek art.

The new museum is considered the most affected during the period of hostilities. At this hour, the building will be reconstructed here, after the restoration work, a collection of papyrus and an exposition of the Egyptian Museum will be presented. The main attraction of the exhibition is the sculpture of Queen Nefertiti. Her only one is forbidden to photograph.

The national gallery is similar in its architectural structure to the temple. The bronze statue of King Frederick VI is installed on the main staircase. On three floors you can see a collection of paintings and sculptures of the 19th century. You can consider the masterpieces of the Berlin artist Adolf von Menzel.

The Bode Museum was restored in 2006. A pedestrian bridge was erected in front of this building with an unusual dome, passing through which you can get to the island of museums.

tv. Original ceilings, fireplaces, doors of 13-15 centuries are made here and furnished with furniture of the same time. The largest collection of coins is also collected here.

The Pergamon Museum is the most famous building where archaeological exhibits are provided in the exhibits. The most important are the Pergamon altar, the Gates of the goddess Ishtar, 14 meters high, the Miletus Gate. Also exhibit cuneiform writing on tablets, collections of dishes and carpets of Islamic art.

The Museum Island complex is part of UNESCO's World Heritage Site.
