City Fortress Kowloon
Kowloon Fortress City is a former huge dirty communal apartment in Kowloon that belonged to Hong Kong in China. Considering that the city is not big, there was a time when there were about 50 thousand people in it.
The wonderful settlement has a fairly rich history, which began a thousand years ago, when a fortification was erected here to protect the saltworks from pirates. Later there was a fort here.
In 1898, this territory came under the rule of two states, as it was leased to Great Britain. During the occupation of this area by the Japanese military, it was populated by Chinese refugees, who were either thieves or drug addicts to a large extent. In 1950, this territory was ruled by the so-called Chinese triads. At that time, prostitution, casinos, drug trafficking, and even drug labs flourished here. By 1970, the mafia was covered up, which led to the rise of the working class of the population. At that time, there were about 10,000 people in the Kowloon fortress city. After 10 years, the population of Kowloon has tripled. New high-rise buildings are being actively built here, while the old ones are being completed and rebuilt. All the streets of the city were under construction, because the houses could not have more than 14 floors, since the airport was located nearby. The local streets, which had turned into corridors, were illuminated by light bulbs around the clock, but electricity directly from the city network was very often stolen for other needs. It was dirty everywhere, and there was trash underfoot.
There were at least 500 factories in this terrifying place that produced clothes, shoes, and food. Despite the stench and filth of the Kowloon Fortress City, the whole of Hong Kong enjoyed eating fish croquettes prepared by local chefs. There were also good dentists who were approached by people from the wealthiest areas of Hong Kong.
In 1994, the authorities decided to restore order here, spending more than one billion dollars, they resettled people, demolished the Kowloon fortress city, and also cleaned up the territory.
Nowadays, there is no trace of the terrifying Kowloon fortress City. There is a park here where Hong Kong residents stroll in the fresh air.
