Kosciuszko National Park

Kosciuszko National Park is the largest in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The National Park is located in the east of the state and borders Namagdi National Park in Victoria. It is the largest national park in New South Wales and the Australian Alps.

Kosciuszko National Park

The Kosciuszko Mountain located on its territory reaches 2228 meters. The park was founded in 1967 and covers an area of 6,900 km2. Since 1977, most of the park's territory has been included in the worldwide network of biosphere reserves. In 1996, Blue Lake, located in the park, was included in the list of wetlands protected by the Ramsar Convention. In 2008, the Kosciuszko National Park, along with other protected areas of the Australian Alps, was included in the National Heritage List of Australia.

The largest rivers of the region originate in the national park: the Snowy River, the Murray and the Murrumbidgee. In addition, glacial lakes such as Blue Lake, Albina and Hedley Tarn are located in the park. Blue Lake is one of the four lakes in Australia.

Kosciuszko National Park

There are six wildlife areas in the Kosciuszko Park. Their total area is about 3,000 km2. Rare species, including endemics, grow here. Among the rare animals living in the park are the mountain couscous, which was considered extinct until 1966, as well as the bright false toad.

Kosciuszko National Park is one of the most famous national parks in Australia, it is visited by about three million tourists annually. All ski resorts in New South Wales are located in the park. Climbing Kosciuszko Mountain without presenting any difficulty. There are two popular routes - from Thredbo Village and from Charlotte's Pass village.

Between Charlotte Pass and Kosciuszko Mountain there is an alpine hut, a sailor's hut, built for travelers to relax. The sailor's hut was built after the death of two skiers in 1928. To prevent such tragedies, the Lori family built a hut made of mountain rocks to give shelter to future travelers. The sailor's Hut has two rooms and a wood storage compartment, the floor is wooden flooring. Dried food is always plentiful, and travelers themselves provide supplies. The route is mainly used by fans of cross-country skiing during the winter months. The route from Trebdo starts with an ascent of about 600 meters past a landscape planted with trees, but many use the Krakenback chairlift to the same station to save two hours of steep ascent. From there, it's seven kilometers along a path lined with iron bars to the top.
