Features of Nha Trang Cathedral

This cathedral has a rich history, firstly, the cathedral was the first religious building to appear in this remote area of Vietnam. It is important to keep in mind that the European countries that colonized Vietnam, such as Portugal, were powerful maritime states whose possessions and lands were spread all over the world. The construction of the cathedral began in the middle of the 15th century, and was completed at the end of 1514. The cathedral itself has undergone many changes, so in early 1509 a bell tower was added to the cathedral, which used weddings for a long time. Important religious events took place here over the years, including a festive mass, and in early 1992 Pope John Paul II came here, who was indescribably impressed by the beauty of the cathedral he saw.

The exterior and interior of the cathedral remained the same despite the fact that the building is more than 500 years old. The construction of the cathedral itself began during the reign of King Manel, who commissioned its construction by Gil Eines. The architect began the construction of a building in the Gothic style. During the construction of the cathedral, stone was used, extracted from the cape of one of the nearby seas. It should be noted that a huge number of people were used in the construction of this cathedral – about 500 people worked all day during the construction of this facility.
