Jacob's Well

Jacob's Well is a natural landmark located in Texas, USA. The well is an underwater cave with an initial depth of at least 10 meters. This Texas landmark is very popular among tourists, but it carries some danger for those who are going to plunge into its crystalline waters.

Jacob's Well

Jacob's well is four meters in diameter, but after a ten–meter depression, it branches into some gorges that have narrow passages. At depth, the cave is covered with a thick layer of natural silt. The entire length of the cave, including the size of the isthmuses, is close to forty meters.

In the past, this wonderful karst spring was considered eternal, but recently it has been decreasing in volume, becoming less and less full-flowing. There was a time when Jacob's Well looked like a fleeting geyser, the jet of which towered ten meters. The water level in the underground layers, due to which it feeds, gradually decreases, which leads to the drying of this natural landmark. Since the 20th century, scuba divers have been actively exploring Jacob's Well.

Jacob's Well

Nowadays, Jacob's well is dangerous enough to dive into its waters. Considering the sad fact of the deaths of 8 divers, since 1980, a special grate with fittings has been built at the entrance to the well, which prevented from dipping into its waters. But desire, as it turns out, comes first, so the intrepid divers pushed back the bars and continued this tempting extreme form of entertainment.

Nowadays, tourists pay not a little attention to Jacob's well, and some of them are still immersed in its clear waters. This natural landmark is a significant natural treasure of this country.
