Hamilton Pool

Hamilton Pool Lake is a natural water basin located 37 km from the city limits of Texas in America. This reservoir is above-ground and underground, and there is a wonderful waterfall on it. The lake was formed by the collapse of a natural tunnel under which the river flowed.

Hamilton Pool

In ancient times, this land was inhabited by two tribes of Indians who were enemies. In 1860, M. Hamilton acquired this magnificent piece of land. In honor of this politician, who was famous in Texas, the lake acquired its name.

But the real popularity came to the reservoir only when in 1880 the Raymers family began to manage here, which acquired this land from the previous owner. The Reimers, who are native to Germany, bought this territory to graze animals. One day, the eight-year-old son of this family, looking after a flock of sheep, discovered an unusual lake here. The boy's father immediately realized that by properly exploiting this site, he could earn a lot more income from it than by doing his previous business.

Reimers decided to open a recreation area here, but since it is difficult to overcome the distance to it from civilization without a car, this attraction was not very popular with tourists.

It was only with the development of the automotive industry that this area began to gain popularity. In 1985, Hamilton Pool Lake became interested in the state itself, which bought it from the Rymers family and organized a nature reserve. The modern park includes the main emerald-colored water pool, a wonderful waterfall that rises 15 meters, as well as the adjacent huge limestone cliffs that are located near the water. Minerals hang from the ceiling, which is abundantly covered with mosses. A lot of mountain swallows have chosen this place as their home. There are also magnificent wild orchids in the park.

The fabulous Hamilton Pool, along with the surrounding area, is sometimes found in films, the directors of which have repeatedly chosen these natural masterpieces as decorations.

Now this area is strictly protected, there is a whole list of prohibitions. Glass bottles should not be brought to Hamilton Pool Lake, it is forbidden to light a campfire, as well as to fish and set up tents. Pets are not allowed near the reservoir, as well as entering the territory by bicycle.

Diving in the waters of the lake is not always allowed due to the seasonal growth of bacteria. There are ongoing studies here, on the basis of which temporary bathing bans are introduced. The reserve is also closed during bad weather.

The entrance to the park is paid, but the ticket allows you to stay here all day. There is a parking lot near the entrance, as well as picnic tables.
