Sochi Sea Station
Sochi Marine Station is the main sea gateway to the resort capital of Russia. This station is known to many for the scene of the main character's departure on a cruise ship trip abroad in the film "The Diamond Hand". A monument to the heroes of the film, installed nearby, reminds of this.
The Sochi Marine Station began to be built on Stalin's orders, and K. S. Alabyan was appointed chief architect. The main "southern gate of the country" had to look appropriate, so the architects treated the construction with full responsibility. As a result, a complex was built with a huge tower topped by a spire. The station is designed in a style nowadays called the "Stalinist Empire". The height of the tower is 74 meters and it consists of 3 tiers, above which are sculptures by V. I. Ingala. This sculptural composition symbolizes the four cardinal directions and the seasons. The spire is made of stainless steel and its height is 37.5 meters.
The station has a large waiting room decorated with paintings, ceramics, and cast-iron elements. The lobby is decorated with majolica columns, and colored mosaics can be seen on the floor. The territory next to the Sochi Marine Station is decorated with a park with palm trees, cedars from the Himalayas, rose bushes, and a large fountain with a thicket 7 meters in diameter. In the center of the fountain stands a statue symbolizing Navigation, in her hand she holds a pilot and a ship, and with her other hand she wishes good luck to the navigators, stopping the waves of the water.
The Sea Station has a convenient location in the city center. Tourists can quickly walk to the train station in 15 minutes. In the station building you can buy a ticket for a pleasure boat, and from here you can sail to Batumi, Trabzon (Turkey), Gagra.
