Initially, the castle served as a country house for the royal family, but over time it managed to preserve the grandeur and sophistication given to it by architect Mateusz Vicente de Oliveira.

By about the end of the 17th century, gold was found in the territory that belonged to Portugal, which is the reason for the prosperity and wealth of this country, and with it the king himself. The Quelouch Castle has transformed into an irresistible palace, which is still compared to Versailles. The castle has managed to embody the Rococo style, because its decoration is colorful facades, as well as graceful form. At the very entrance to the castle there is a sculpture of Queen Mary I, whose husband was the very first owner of the palace, which at that time was just a country residence.
