Features of the Szentendre Cathedral
This building is one of the most ancient cathedrals. The story is connected with the Spaniards. Having colonized the land, they called it New Spain and began to establish their own order - many Spanish-style institutions were created, the language began to spread, and many buildings were remodeled in a European manner.
In the 16th century, the king of Spain commissioned the construction of a Catholic cathedral here as a gift to the local bishop. This is how the Szentendre Cathedral appeared, which became the center of attraction for all Orthodox Christians throughout Hungary. The cathedral has been able to survive to this day in its original form.
Description of the architecture of the Szentendre Cathedral
Different architectural styles are combined here - Renaissance, Baroque. The Szentendre Cathedral is a basilica built of stone. The main dome is 66 meters high. The facade of the building is made in a strict European style, where bas-reliefs and patterns carved from stone are visible. The sides of the cathedral are decorated with towers where the bells are located. Also in the cathedral itself there are sculptures of Paul and Jacob, who are one of the main holy figures of the Serbian diocese, as well as all Orthodox Christians.
If you're in Hungary, locals recommend adding a visit to Szentendre Cathedral into your schedule. The architecture and atmosphere inside this building will not leave anyone indifferent, but will only enhance the impression of the architecture of European buildings.
