Church of the Transfiguration of Szentendre
The Transfiguration Church of Szentendre is considered a symbol of the city. Szentendre was founded by Serbs. This is one of the largest historical "corners" in all of Hungary. There are a large number of churches and various buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries, as well as many historical and architectural monuments.
History of the Transfiguration Church of Sentendre
This church is one of the architectural monuments, the date of its construction is subsidized by the mid-18th century. According to local residents, on the site of this church stood a small wooden chapel, which the city authorities were forced to demolish due to its unsuitable and dilapidated condition.
The townspeople call the Transfiguration Church of Szentendre Tabachskaya, since “tabaci”, translated from Serbian, means leather tanners who lived in this area of the city for many years.

It should be noted that around the church you can observe the magnificent nature of the area - there are several park areas, as well as a large number of houses built here by the Serbs in the 18th century. The area used to be a busy place - various merchants traded here, as well as sellers from the most distant corners of Hungary. The church represents a classic example of European religious architecture, which is entirely imbued with motifs of different architectural styles - Gothic, Classical, and also a little Renaissance. At the top there is a tower, on which was placed a magnificent golden cross, made in one of the best forges in Serbia. The interior style of the temple was made in the Baroque style.
