Features of the Annunciation Church of Szentendre
This building was built in the middle of the 18th century by local builders, who, by order of the authorities, erected a Baroque building that served as a chapel for the common people of Budapest. The building of the Szentendre Annunciation Church was built on the site of a former chapel of refugees from various European countries – the Czech Republic, Montenegro, Bosnia and Greece, which at that time were invaded by great Turkey.
For this reason, an incredible stream of refugees poured into different European countries, seeking shelter and spiritual peace, and the Szentendre Annunciation Church became one of these places, where humanitarian aid was provided to refugees and services were held for them. The architecture of the church itself is quite ordinary and uncomplicated – you can see the symmetrical facade on which the tower stands.
Description of the Annunciation Church of Szentendre
The entrance to the church is made of special stone carvings, above which a fresco was made depicting the Holy Faces of Constantine and Elena. It is noteworthy that numerous murals have been preserved in the temple, which have remained in their original form – here you can see the holy apostles, Jesus and the Virgin Mary.
Today, services are not held in the Szentendre Church of the Annunciation, a museum of the Orthodox faith has been opened here, where you can see exhibits of Orthodox churches – chalices, vestments of ministers and much more. The walls of this church are often used as light installations during various celebrations, which are so loved by the citizens of Budapest.
