Nature conservation

The leadership of the Bavarian Forest adheres to the philosophy of "Leaving nature alone", and always adheres to it. The nature in the park develops as usual, the park administration monitors it in every possible way. Guests are always welcome in the Bavarian Forest and are invited to observe the process of formation of the virgin forest from special viewing platforms and trails.

You can walk along the untouched medium-high mountainous terrain, which is 95% overgrown with forests. In addition to the forests in the park, there are mysterious swamps, rushing mountain streams, as well as Lake Rachelsee, formed under the onslaught of a glacier. The sights of the park include sightseeing routes: the Vacli Grove, the Zelensteig trail, the Rachel-Falkenstein forest massif, the Steinberg rock ridge, and the St. Oswald Museum.

The Bavarian forest is characterized by a long snowy winter, during which temperature fluctuations depend on elevation (from 600 to 1,453 meters). Under the influence of the harsh climate, the flora and fauna characteristic of this area was formed. In the national park you can meet: eagle owls, long-tailed hooves, crows, otters, grouse, grouse, three-toed woodpeckers. Many animals are collected in the enclosures of the menagerie near the town of Neuschenau. There is a playground and a camp near Falkenstein Mountain where children can explore the nature of the Bavarian forests.

Entertainment in the Bavarian Forest Park

There are more than 300 kilometers of hiking trails in the park for visitors, and cyclists have not been forgotten, who are provided with 200 km of hiking trails, but in winter there is a separate area for skiers, because there are routes with a total length of 80 km. Visitors can get all the important information at the Hans-Eisenman House information center near Neuschenau, where there is also a botanical garden and a Japanese rock garden. Free themed guided tours have also been developed for travelers, which are held here from New Year's Eve until November.

At the moment, the Bavarian Forest is only threatened by acid rain, as it is located near the industrial centers of Bavaria. With such a neighborhood, the forest is saved only by its harsh climate.
