Hatley Park
One of the largest and most beautiful parks in Canada is located on Vancouver Island in a city called Colwood. This wonderful Hatley Park is very popular among visitors for a reason, because it looks like a paradise.
The history of Hatley Park tells us that originally this poor land was used by local residents. But in 1906, one of the deputy governors, James Dansmaier, bought the area and decided to build a 40-room mansion here. For the project, which was approved by the owner, the huge castle should be surrounded by a gorgeous garden. The most famous and talented American garden designers worked on the realization of the dreams of James Dansmaier and his wife Laura. This castle became a landmark of the area and passed into the possession of the heirs.
In 1939, the Canadian government bought Hatley Park. During the Second World War, it was planned that the King of England and his family would live here, but the ruler chose to stay in London.
Later, on the territory of Hatley Park there was an equipped naval school, which since 1948 has been called the Royal Road Military University. Since 1995, the mansion and the surrounding gardens have been known as a national landmark and, of course, accessible to visitors.
Now Hatley Park is a picturesque place where you can have a wonderful time with the whole family. In the very center of the park there is a mansion, which has a rich picturesque design, as well as stunning artwork. The park territory is filled with local and exotic plants, wonderful flowers. There are magnificent English gardens, lakes and streams, through which decorative bridges are thrown. There are also many places for recreation in the park.
To date, the Royal University of Roads is looked after by more than five gardeners, a forester, and other employees. Since the university does not receive government funding for the maintenance of the territory, a paid entrance for visitors has been introduced to the main gardens. This caused some controversy among the public.
Hatley Park is always happy to be visited by tourists of the city, especially attracted by the luxurious Japanese, Italian and rose gardens. Famous films were shot more than once in the castle itself. In 2008, Hatley Park celebrated its centennial anniversary.
