Magura Cave
Magura Cave is one of the largest and most famous caves in Bulgaria. Located in the Vidinsky region, near the city of Vidina and the village of Rabisha.
Magura Cave is located inside a mountain formed from limestone rocks. The mountain has a height of 461 m above sea level. Cave formation is a natural process that is not originally associated with human actions. The entire inner space stretched over a length of about 3 km. One main gallery and 3 branches and 6 halls, of various sizes and scales are distinguished. In the cave you can see a huge stalagmit 20 m in height and 12 m in girth.
It is known that the cave was investigated since the time of the ancient Romans. Since 1927, the cave of Magura and its contents have been studied by professional archaeologists. Most of the cave complex is open to visitors today. Excursion groups are recruited every hour. For more comfortable movement, tracks, bridges are arranged, there are railings, organized lighting.
Attractions
The main property of the Magura cave is cave paintings, according to archaeological information they were applied in the Bronze Age 3100-900 BC. e., which makes them the oldest cave paintings in Europe. Researchers distinguish 700 drawings, among them schematic designations of men, women, animals, scenes from life, hunting, natural phenomena, the sun and stars. Some believe that a solar calendar, 366 days long, is depicted in this way. The oldest painting is being investigated today, so it is unlikely to be seen during the tour.
In 1974, one of the halls of the Magura cave was used to conduct interesting experience. People suffering from diseases of the respiratory system, in particular asthma, were left here for observation. Noticed, a stable temperature of ( 11-12 degrees ), high humidity, no extraneous noise, constant ionization and muffled lighting had a positive effect on health. The general condition improved, sharp attacks ceased. The hall has since been called the Sanatorium".
"Triumphant Hall is the first hall to meet cave visitors. It is noted that the caves are beautiful acoustics, so music performances are periodically held here.
For tourists, a special convenient entrance is laid in the cave of Magura. In front of the cave itself, parking and a store where you can buy wine, which is stored in one of the ( halls, is considered to be ideal conditions for storing ). To visit cave galleries, it is recommended to have comfortable shoes, gloves and a flashlight of small-sized batteries.
