This most beautiful facility, which began its work in 1973, has been ranked by experts along with the most outstanding structures in the world. The grand opening of this unique building was attended by Queen Elizabeth II of England herself.
The talented architect of the Sydney Opera House is Jorn Utzon. The construction of this grandiose theater lasted 14 years and cost just over $ 100 million.
The Sydney Opera House adheres to the expressionist style, which accommodates the most daring design. The local authorities have allocated a territory for this facility, which is 2.2 hectares of land. The height of the theater is 185 m. It is 120 meters wide in some places. The highlight of the theater is the fact that the entire structure was built on the water, where 580 piles were pushed. The whole building is huge and weighs about 161 thousand tons. The electricity that powers the opera house could provide an entire city of 25,000 people.
The roof of the building is covered with light-colored tiles, although from a distance it looks perfectly white. The interior of the building is decorated with pink granite, as well as decorative wood and plywood.
The architect of the Sydney Opera House was awarded the highest architectural award in 2003.
