Lord Howe Island
Lord Howe is a volcanic formation in Australia. The small size and boomerang-shaped appearance attract tourists. With its small size, the island is considered a separate region and has internal self-government. This island is located in the Tasman Sea at a distance of 750 km from the city of Sydney. As for the area of this island, it is 14.5 square kilometers. At the same time, there can be no more than four hundred tourists on the island.
History of Lord Howe Island
The age of this island is twenty million years. It was opened in February 1782. At that time, prisoners from Australia were being transported there for correctional work. Richard Howe decided to explore the area and set up the British flag there. After the first visit by the lord, the island was explored by several more sailors. The first inhabitants on the island appeared in 1834. These were several families who were supposed to establish a settlement. About 80 years later, the volcanic island was opened to tourists.

Lord Howe is considered one of the most ancient formations of the Pacific Ocean. It was created by the merger of two islands. The island attracts some migratory birds, there are about 14 species. Humpback whales and a large number of black cod can be found in the surroundings. There is a large concentration of diverse marine fauna, coral reefs.
What to see on the island
One of the natural attractions is Mount Gower, which is 875 m high. The southern part has an uneven terrain, some of it is represented by magnificent forest hills. Here you can enjoy basalt mountain ranges and coral piles up to 45 meters high. The northern part is mostly hilly and low-mountainous, with settlements located in it. Tourists come to the island to enjoy nature, visit the botanical garden, and the national nature Reserve. Lord Howe Island is a true paradise for surfing, yachting, scuba diving and fishing enthusiasts. The island has a well-developed infrastructure, there are restaurants, a museum, and a hospital. Despite the lack of cellular communications and public transport, you can find both budget houses and luxury villas here. It takes less than 2 hours to get to the island from Sydney.
