Antelope Valley
The California golden poppy is a plant that is very famous not only in California, but also in the USA. There is a valley in this country that is simply covered with poppy flowers. This area is known as the Antelope Valley, and is protected by the state.
This desert area, approximately 700 hectares in size, is located at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level and belongs to the Mojave. The total length of all roads in the reserve is about 11 km. Therefore, everyone can enjoy strolling between the beautiful plantations of orange-golden California poppies without getting tired. This area is known as the Antelope Valley for a reason, because it was inhabited by these animals in the past.
In 1903, this beautiful fiery flower was awarded the title of state flower. But the beautiful, vibrant plants were noticed and highlighted among others back in the 1700s. The Spaniards, noticing these endless golden fields that simply ran down the river from the high hills, were fascinated by such natural beauty. They named this flower, which sounded like Copa de Ora, which means Golden Bowl in our language. But this is not the only name that poppies were called. You could also hear Amarola or Dromidera, which translates as sleepy, and this is not for nothing, because if the wind blows or the sun hides behind a cloud, the bowls of flowers immediately close.
In order to preserve the golden poppy, a nature reserve named The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve was established in the United States. Of course, it is forbidden to pick flowers in the park area. In this valley, taking a beautiful photo of a flower is a bit inconvenient due to the local gusts of wind. At the same time, the flowers are constantly in motion, in wavy raids, they are constantly rolling somewhere. If you look at the valley well, then among the poppy lights, you can also see other wildflowers, including blue lupine and lilac clover.
Antelope Valley is always happy to see guests on its territory, but intense flowering mainly occurs from February to May. Depending on the weather conditions, the flowering time changes in one direction or the other every year.
Tourists are given the opportunity to have a good time outdoors, wandering between the gorgeous red flowers, inhaling the unique scent of flowers. Making bouquets or picking flowers is strictly prohibited, because this is a protected area, and the California poppy itself is a symbol of the state. But besides the gorgeous flora, you can also meet local field dwellers, which include lizards, ground squirrels, lynx, and coyote.
Information about the beginning of flowering in the Antelope Valley will be provided to you at any local hotel.
