Hateruma Island
The island of Hateruma, small in size, is located in the south of Japan, and on its southernmost part there is a small monument on which this information is attested. The island is mostly known for its beach. Thousands of Japanese come here by high-speed ferry to enjoy the soft white sand and warm waters of the Pacific Ocean. The water here is so clear that when you enter it, you can see in great detail the tiny fish that surround bathing people in small schools.
Brief information
The Japanese come to Hateruma Island with families, bring sunbeds and umbrellas with them, sit at the water's edge and enjoy the endless blue surface. Hateruma is so small that you can go around it on a bicycle in no more than an hour. By the way, there are suitable roads and bike rentals for this. Despite its small size, there is still a settlement here — Taketomi village, or rather a small village with a population of less than five thousand people. The village has several restaurants and small cafes; people come here to eat from the beach. There is a store and a small medical center for emergency care. Those who are not busy serving tourists grow sugar rope on the island of Khateruma; special water tanks are organized here for watering it. You can see them here and there while traveling around the island.
Features of Hateruma Island
In the southeast of the island there is an observatory for observing and studying the starry sky. Almost everyone can come here and, with the help of a sufficiently powerful telescope, you can delve deeper into the study of outer space. From this point you can see the largest number of constellations in the southern sky — 84 out of 88. Those who did not make it to the observatory will also be able to admire the starry sky; there are no lanterns on the island of Hateruma, which means the stars shine especially brightly.
It is useful for tourists to know that the island of Hateruma is very small, there are few places to stay for the night, and it is best to book them in advance. Otherwise, you may find yourself in an unpleasant situation. For tourists who come here from the mainland, a transfer to their hotel is usually provided, but it is better to clarify this issue in advance. In general, the island of Hateruma is interesting, first of all, for its excellent beach holiday, where you can go diving, snorkeling, water skiing or just swimming in the warm, clear water of the ocean.
