Prambanan

Prambanan – Hinduism Temple Complex, which is located in Indonesia on the island of Java. This is the greatest stone structure, from afar similar to the rocks. Having looked closer, you can see the beauty of the stone complex created by human hands, with temples of different sizes. This complex, 50 meters high, is unique in that it was built without any solutions, just laying a stone on a stone.

The Prambanan Temple was built in the ninth century. According to legend, this complex was built by some prince in one night. He loved the princess very much, and she did not want to marry him and set such a seemingly impossible condition. Seeing this building in the morning, the princess tried to burn it. The prince was angry and turned the princess into a statue of the complex – « Stroy Virgo ».

To date, under the influence of time and repeated earthquakes, some parts have collapsed, and the complex itself has darkened greatly. The Prambanan Temple consists of several parts: the first part includes three large temples that are dedicated to Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu. The main and largest temple in size, dedicated to the god Shiva. This temple is called Loro Jongrang, which means « Stroy Virgo ». Before you go inside the temple, visitors wear helmets. On the territory of the temple complex, smaller temples were erected, which were intended for animals that the gods rode. Around the complex there were many miniature structures, most of which, to date, have not survived.

The walls of the temples are decorated with carvings, the paths of Buddha made of stone are placed on the territory of the complex. Many frescoes and bas-reliefs simply captivate the look, you can admire them for hours. These are mythical animals, celestial trees - scenes from « Ramayans ».

In the temple complex of Prambanan, there are about 600 temple buildings along with tombs. All statues in temples were left without heads due to the fact that they were simply stolen, because the complex is almost not guarded. The ancient temple of Prambanan, listed on the UNESCO heritage register.

Archaeological work does not stop here, and all the time they find new parts of the complex. Despite the fact that the complex periodically carries out restoration, the temple belongs to the endangered wonders of the world.
