Skogafoss Waterfall
Skógafoss is one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Iceland, located on the Skogau River near the Eyafyadlayekudl Glacier. Every year attracts many tourists, becoming one of the main attractions of the country.
The Skogafoss waterfall formed after the sea receded, drawing the plain and a multi-kilometer wall of rocks, 60 meters high. The rivers that previously flowed into the ocean now fell from the rocky wall, forming waterfalls. One of these waterfalls is Skaugafoss, 60 meters high and 25 wide. In sunny weather, you can easily see a pair of rainbows, since a huge amount of water dust rises from the waterfall.
For a long time, local residents of Scougafoss have been paying special attention. According to one of the legends in the village of Skowgar, located nearby, Viking Trasi settled. He had many treasures, and he hid from the rocks of the waterfall. But either Viking fell in battles, or forgot about his treasures, but nevertheless he never returned to these lands, leaving his wealth here. After some time, a treasure chest was found by a child playing nearby. But there were so many treasures that the child could not move the chest. Then he decided to open it, and at that moment the streams of the Skogafoss waterfall turned the chest over and scattered the gold that fell into the cracks. The boy was lucky to save only the golden ring, which is now located in the city museum. Local residents believe that the abundance of rainbows and the splendor of water on sunny days thanks to the gold of the Viking of Trasi in the rocks.
