Vajdahunyad Castle
The charming and romantic Vaidahunyad Castle is located at the crossroads of Budapest's central streets. The reason for its construction was the great celebration of the Hungarian millennium, which took place in 1896.
By this day, a "Historical pavilion" was organized here, where various exhibits made of wood, cardboard and papier-mache were presented, among which there were smaller copies of houses. The Vaidahunyad Castle was among the models of the exhibition.
The visitors were very impressed by the Vaidahunyad Castle, which stood out noticeably among the exhibits of the pavilion. They decided to name the entire exhibition hall in his honor, and at the end of this national holiday, it was decided to erect a life-size replica of the castle made of stone.
By 1908, a beautiful stone castle stood on the site of the temporary exhibition, which was surrounded by a deep moat filled with water. There is a bridge across the moat that leads through a Gothic-style gate into the interior of the palace. Here, on the territory of the castle, there is a Romanesque monastery with a small chapel, as well as a building in the Gothic style, which resembles a citadel. There is an Italian palazzo on the local territory, as well as the tower of the Apostles.
The palace is presented in the Baroque style, and its walls are decorated with magnificent bas-reliefs. Among the many sculptures on display are images of King Matthias and the Princess of Aragon.
Near the castle there is a monument to an unknown writer, who owns the work "Deeds of the Hungarians", written in the 12th century. Among travelers, the sculpture is very famous, all tourists necessarily touch the pen of the figure, which makes it one of the most popular attractions in the country. There is a legend that says that by touching the pen of a figure, intelligence and wisdom are added to a person, and excellent grades are given to students.
Nowadays, the Museum of agriculture is located within the walls of the Vaidahunyad Castle, where the oldest expositions related to this field are presented. The exhibition tells the story of agricultural machinery from its early days to the present. The palace also has collections of the most important hunting trophies. On the territory of the castle you can taste the most popular Hungarian wines, which are prepared using an ancient recipe.
When it gets dark outside, colorful lights light up around the castle, which add magic to the area. Various festivals and celebrations are often held on the territory of Vaidahunyad Castle, and sometimes even film shoots are held here.
