Eger Lyceum

The Lyceum in Eger is one of the most famous institutions in the area. There are a large number of different historical monuments in Eger, which are famous for their unsurpassed interiors and magnificent exterior views. The lyceum has Esterhazy College, where not only local residents receive knowledge, but also people from different parts of Europe study here.

The history of the Lyceum in Eger

Initially, this building was intended to be used by a local university, but it never received university status. At different times, various educational institutions were located here: the law school, the episcopal printing house, as well as one of the most famous Jesuit schools in all of Hungary.

Thanks to the reconstruction of the Lyceum in Eger, it was possible to restore its original majestic appearance and add some new elements of Baroque architecture. The architecture of the castle itself is made in a fairly strict style - the garden that adjoins the castle is especially surprising and admires, rare species of trees grow inside this garden, brought here from various parts of the world. The aesthetics of the walls and other elements of the castle's defenses never cease to amaze. All the elements were made in the same Baroque style, while they are organically combined with each other thanks to the work of the master engineers who built this structure.

Features of the Lyceum in Eger

Speaking of the modern castle, it should be said that it owes its appearance to Charles Albert, who, by order of the Marquise, the owner of the castle, transferred it to the ownership of the Hungarian government, which decided to create educational institutions in this place. Thanks to the efforts of the government, a museum was opened in the Lyceum in Eger, where valuable items of the castle's inhabitants are still kept, as well as tools used by the castle's defenders to repel massive attacks by foreigners.

The Lyceum in Eger is one of the many educational institutions in Hungary, but also one of the few palaces with such a long history, the memory of which has been preserved by the walls of this building.
